The Meaning of Personal Development
Posted by Mattymar in Uncategorized on April 27th, 2009
A lot of people ask me what I mean when I say that I love to work on personal development. Well, to put rather obviously, I mean to develop one’s person. However, it does go quite a bit deeper that this and I think this is something that’s important for everyone to understand.
Personal development, in my opinion, is all about making the most of one’s self. It means bringing out one’s talents to be used to their fullest potential. It means strengthening one’s weaknesses so that they do not hinder the path toward a goal. Personal development means finding away to learn from both successes and failures to grow one’s self on a regular basis so that each day is closer to ultimate happiness than the previous.
Personal development is not as simple a concept as it may seem. It is, in fact, rather complex but can certainly be accomplished in a simple manner. One of my own favorite aspects of personal development is that there are so many areas that can be improve with a “duh” solution. A “duh” solution is one that most people never think of initially, but, when brought to light, trigger an immediate “why didn’t I think of that sooner” response. Furthermore, when the “duh” solutions are carried out, they almost always lead to a statement of “if only I had done that sooner…”. It’s a beautiful thing.
The world of personal development is very exciting. Seeing myself improve and grow on a daily basis is awesome! That’s one of the biggest reasons for this blog. I love to see my singing improve, but that’s just a small part of my overall personal development. Singing has made me more confident, more comfortable with myself, more energetic, more open, and happier. Seeing this development is remarkable!
When you get a few minutes to yourself, write down a little bit about your own personal development. How have you improved yourself in the past few days, weeks, or months? How have you grown? What have you learned? How have you developed and brought out your talents? Have you discovered new talents? How have you improved your weaknesses?
Seeing your development feels incredible, you’ll see. Next, take a minute and plan your own personal development for the next week. Think of a weakness to strengthen. Think of a way to refine your talents. Think of a way to better utilize your talents. Make some goals and go after them!
Personal development is a beautiful thing. It’s more than goal setting and achieving. It’s about working with what you were given and making the most of your life for the good of yourself and others. Personal development is about maximizing the happiness in your life and the lives of those around you.
Motivation to Finish, Not Just to Get Started
Posted by Mattymar in Uncategorized on March 29th, 2009
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about staying motivated throughout a big project and this morning I found a great blog post that addresses this exact point. The author of the post entitled “5 Ways to Stay Motivated to Finish What You Started” gives five great tips for staying motivated to get you to the finish line. It’s one of the most difficult aspects of personal development, but also one of the most important.
Staying motivated throughout a project is, admittedly, not easy. In the past, I have been labeled by myself and others as a “serial starter”. Most of us actually have this tendency. This is because there is so much passion at the beginning of something new that when it wheres off it is very difficult to keep going. If the passion remained all the way through, who knows what each of us could have accomplished by now?
You’ll hear a lot of people say that the toughest part is getting started. Maybe that’s true, but I’m starting to believe that the toughest part is really seeing it through to the end. A person who finishes a project with the same enthusiasm that they had at the beginning is truly a special person. I want you to be a special person, so I’m going to try to help you keep your passion to the end. Read the article linked to in this piece, and I will come back with more tips in the future on this very important topic.
Personal Development Challenge of My Own
Posted by Mattymar in Uncategorized on March 28th, 2009
These past few days have been a real challenge to my own personal development. To be brutally honest, these days have kicked the crap out of me. I’ve been working extremely hard trying to get this blog up and running and trying to get it seen by a large number of people.
I must admit that I am pleased with my progress so far, but I still have a long way to go. Being a blogger is tough work, especially when you have another job that takes up a good chunk of your day.
Honestly, I don’t think the old Matt, or Matthew Joseph or whatever the hell I’m calling myself these days, could have made it this far. I think had I not experienced some kind of personal growth, my passion would have gone away completely. Now, however, I keep in mind my purpose for putting all this effort into getting myself noticed. That purpose is that I will be able to reach out and help a great number of people. This makes it all worthwhile.
You see, guys, I’ve discovered my purpose in life following failure after failure. I’ve always bounced back from these failures at some point, but this time I have a new resolution to succeed. The important thing is that I believe myself this time. I believe in my heart that I will see this crazy venture through to the end. I can picture the rewards in store for me even though I am no where near them at the moment.
This bit of personal development is truly life-changing. I’m having a lot of fun right now because I’m allowing myself to have a lot of fun right now.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. Last night I got home from work and was extremely tired. I hadn’t gotten any work done yet as far as promoting my blog is concerned but I was ready to go to sleep. It didn’t look like I was going to be productive at all so I was going to call it quits for the night. Instead, though, I thought of what part of my online work was most fun. That’s when I turned to my singing. Sure, I’m still pretty bad right now, but I know that I can have some fun with it. So, I recorded a video and had a lot of fun. This turned my entire attitude around and got me back in the mood to do some work. As a result, I had a very productive night.
No, this little technique won’t work for everyone, but I think you can learn from it. When you’re in a rut and you don’t feel like doing something that is going to eventually bring you happiness, find a part of it that’s fun. Find something fun, anything fun that will put you in a good mood. Then think about those goals again with your recharged spirit and get at it!
Life should be fun. It shouldn’t be boring and monotonous no matter what you do. There’s always something you can do to recharge your spirit. Find it and do it. Have some fun and make things happen!
The World is Ending…But We Can Make That a Good Thing

This video will explain my crazy personal development and inspiration a lot better than I ever could without a video. It demonstrates some of my ideals for the world and how I think we can make that happen as individuals. The message is strong and it is one that I truly believe in.
Please pass the message on to anyone you feel should hear it. I hope you enjoy the video. Let me know your thoughts.
This Was Fun

This was a video I created to have some fun. I didn’t know most of the words but I wanted to let loose a little bit today.
In other news, I am currently in the process of looking for a good vocal coach. I’m ready to take my singing career to the next level…so that would be something just above rock bottom.
Meet Matthew Joseph
Posted by Mattymar in Uncategorized on March 14th, 2009
Hi guys, I’m Matthew Joseph. You may have never heard of me, but that is because I am not famous…yet. I’m not so sure that I want to be a famous music star, or any kind of star for that matter, because it would make my life much more hectic. However, I’m willing to take that chance because having a large following would mean that I would be able to reach and inspire a large number of people. And that is my goal for this little experiment.
You see, I do not want to be famous for fame’s sake. I want to be famous to help more people. The greatest thing in the world to me is making other peole happy. When the people I am around and the people I connect with are happy, that makes me happy. I love to make people smile and laugh. It may sound corny, but it is true.
This is why I’m putting my pathetic abilities in front of the world to see. I want people to smile and laugh now as they see me having fun and making a fool of myself. However, eventually, as I work hard to improve my ability, I will make people simply smile in amazement and hopefully inspire them to accomplish great things in their own lives. That is what Matthew Joseph is all about.
I’ve recently gone through a period in my own life in which I wasn’t having much fun. I referred to is as a “mental funk”. I simply could not find anything that interested me. I got bored of everything and was not enjoying myself. This period lasted many months. I worked hard to change my attitude and my mindset. Now, everything is about enjoying life and making the most of every opportunity. This is part of the message that I want to pass on to my fans. Haha, that sounds funny, “my fans”, haha.
Well, enjoy this video for now…there are many more to come!
